Choosing a diet plan rich in anti-oxidants to help manage your diabetes

Hello my friends, dr. Nicola Siso here
and I am back with tip of the day about antioxidants. Why do we need antioxidants in our body? Well, because they go after the free radicals that are in our body,
that are causing havoc. They break down cells, they mutate cells and that’s what
causes things like cancer. So, how do we get more antioxidants in our diet? Well,
the highest source are your blackberries, berries in general. Blackberries of the
highest. Tupac almost had it right…the blacker the berry…the more antioxidants.
Other sources are all of your organic fresh fruits and vegetables. Are loaded
with antioxidants. Actually, the higher …the way this tell if
something has a high level of antioxidants is if it doesn’t go brown. So,
for example, an apple, when you cut it and in turn it oxidizes, it turns brown, that
means it’s lower on the antioxidants range. Right. So, things that don’t turn
brown that you can cut open are higher in the antioxidants. That’s one little trick
to know. But please get as many berries as you can during the season of course,
fresh and the off season if you have to switch to frozen that’s fine and throw
them in your in your smoothies, that’s great. They’re low glycemic, they’re great
for diabetics. Please, get as many berries as you can in your diet.
Lots of love!
